About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems as an entry point to a career in power-grid construction and maintenance. The position reports to the Foreman and performs construction, maintenance, and repair work with safety as a priority.

The role involves working outdoors at construction sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms. It requires physical labor, travel and extended assignments at job locations, and availability for outages, storms, emergencies, callouts, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Groundmen follow safety protocols, use and inspect personal protective equipment and rubber goods, and help maintain excavation and pulling equipment.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Able to meet the physical demands of standing, walking, handling objects, operating tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
• Follow safety protocols, including use of PPE and insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
• Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand when PPE must be worn.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
• Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
• Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including on-call rotation.
