About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The employee assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. The work involves outdoor construction sites and may require extended assignments away from home, including out-of-state work, and availability for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Be willing to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and repair underground electrical distribution systems, prioritizing safety.
• Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain excavation and pulling equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, and excavators.
• Follow safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand insulated protective covers used to isolate differences of potential.
• Inspect rubber goods and PPE and understand when PPE must be worn.
• Perform rigorous physical labor and communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
