About The Position

Assists the Grocery Manager in directing the operation of the Grocery Department, including supervising and training personnel. Assists with ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising. May direct and control the entire store in the absence of the Store Director and Grocery Manager. The role supports customer service, day-to-day grocery and front-end operations, merchandising, cash handling, shrink control, and compliance with Company policies. It may include opening and closing the store, serving as a backup cashier or Receiving Clerk, and overseeing all associates and customer complaints when senior store leaders are absent. The position is safety-sensitive and involves work in temperature-controlled areas, including cold cases, coolers, and freezers.

Requirements

Extensive retail background and prior management experience related to retail operations.
Thorough understanding of Company practices, policies, and procedures.
Strong written and oral communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage and develop people and supervise assigned employees.
Ability to maintain composure with customers, vendors, and coworkers; work as a team player; and handle interruptions and complaints.
Knowledge of employment laws, workplace practices and policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Ability to plan, report, schedule, supervise, meet operating objectives, and make hiring and disciplinary action recommendations.
Ability to judge and react to business activity and handle administrative details.
Knowledge of basic mathematics, weights and measures, product variety, product location, and perishability.
Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels, customers, vendors, the public, and government agencies.
Ability to work at different times of day, on weekends and holidays, and with little or no supervision.
Thorough knowledge of check stand scanning and loss prevention procedures.
Ability to operate and train others on front-end cash registers and/or scanning equipment and to operate ordering equipment.
Ability to implement emergency procedures for disasters, equipment problems, or computer software malfunctions.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods; frequently reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 80 pounds; and possibly climb ladders.
Ability to properly stack and operate fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheel carts, and pallet jacks.
Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and mental alertness to complete work safely and accurately.
Ability to use cleaning supplies, chemicals, and safety cutters as needed.
Compliance with Company attendance, grooming, and dress policies.

Responsibilities

Champion Company and Division customer service programs and resolve customer complaints positively.
Promote personalized customer service and use suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
Perform ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising duties.
Assist the Grocery Manager with planning, organizing, and directing daily grocery department and front-end operations, including merchandise and special sales recommendations.
Help implement merchandising policies and Store Director instructions.
Serve as a backup cashier when needed and account for sales, maintain and store register detail tapes, and issue and collect money from check stands.
Prepare task lists for night stockers, close out discontinued items, and implement price changes.
Control shrink and prevent the sale of out-of-code products.
Open and close the store and ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, security, and other Company policies.
Recommend corrective action and implement emergency procedures for equipment or computer software malfunctions.
Oversee store operations, supervise associates, and handle customer complaints when the Store Director and Grocery Manager are absent.
Perform Receiving Clerk duties when the Receiving Clerk is absent.
Perform all duties accurately, honestly, and with integrity, along with other assigned duties.
