About The Position

Assists the Grocery Manager and Grocery Third Person with operating the Grocery Department, including supervising and training personnel and performing ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising duties. Helps plan, organize, and direct the department’s day-to-day operations. In the absence of the Store Director, Grocery Manager, and Grocery Third Person, directs and controls the operation of the entire store. The role supports company and division customer-service and merchandising programs, handles customer relations and complaints, controls shrink, prevents the sale of out-of-code products, and ensures compliance with sanitation, safety, security, and other company policies. The position may open and close the store and act as a backup cashier. It is safety-sensitive and involves work in a temperature-controlled grocery store, including exposure to refrigerated and freezer areas, loading and receiving areas, and occasionally outdoor conditions.

Requirements

Ability to remain composed when dealing with customers, vendors, and coworkers, including handling interruptions and complaints.

Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels, customers, vendors, and the public; take initiative; and judge and react to business activity.
Knowledge of basic mathematics, weights and measures, product variety, product location, and perishability.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 80 pounds; and possibly climb ladders.
Ability to properly stack and operate fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks; manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
Mental alertness to complete work activities safely and accurately.
Ability to work at different times of day, with little or no supervision, and nights, weekends, and holidays.
May use cleaning supplies, chemicals, and safety cutters.
Must comply with company policies, including attendance, grooming standards, and dress code.

Responsibilities

Champion company and division customer-service programs and help meet or exceed customer-service goals.
Handle customer relations positively, including resolving customer complaints effectively, and promote personalized service.
Perform ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, rotating, and merchandising duties.
Assist the Grocery Manager and Grocery Third Person with planning, organizing, and directing day-to-day Grocery Department operations.
Assist with implementing company and division merchandising policies and Store Director instructions.
Help supervise and train personnel.
Control shrink and prevent the sale of out-of-code products.
Ensure compliance with company sanitation, safety, security, and other policies, and initiate corrective action as needed.
Open and close the store; direct and control the entire store when the Store Director, Grocery Manager, and Grocery Third Person are absent.
May act as a backup cashier and use suggestive selling or other sales techniques.
Perform all duties accurately, honestly, and with integrity, as well as other assigned duties.
