About The Position

The Grocery Fourth Person assists the Grocery Manager and Grocery Third Person with operating the Grocery Department, including personnel supervision and training, ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising. The role also directs and controls the entire store in the absence of the Store Director, Grocery Manager, and Grocery Third Person. The position supports customer-service goals, handles customer relations and complaints, helps plan and direct daily department operations, implements merchandising policies, controls shrink, and prevents the sale of out-of-code products. It ensures compliance with company policies and may open and close the store or provide backup cashier support. This is a safety-sensitive role involving exposure to store equipment, cold storage areas, varying temperatures, and occasional outdoor work.

Requirements

Thorough understanding of overall company practices, policies, and procedures.

Ability to remain composed when dealing with customers, vendors, and coworkers, including when handling interruptions and complaints.
Ability to work alone with minimal supervision and to work as part of a team.

Ability to judge and react to business activity.
Knowledge of basic mathematics, weights and measures, product variety, product location, and perishability.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
Ability to reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 80 pounds; may need to climb ladders.
Ability to properly stack and operate fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and mental alertness to complete work safely and accurately.
Ability to work at different times of day with little or no supervision, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to use cleaning supplies, chemicals, and safety cutters as needed.
Compliance with company policies, including attendance, grooming standards, and dress code.

Responsibilities

Champion company and division customer-service programs and meet or exceed customer-service goals.
Handle customer relations positively, resolve complaints effectively, and promote personalized service.
Perform ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, rotating, and merchandising duties.
Assist the Grocery Manager and Grocery Third Person with planning, organizing, and directing daily Grocery Department operations.
Help implement company and division merchandising policies and Store Director instructions.
Control shrink and prevent the sale of out-of-code products.
Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, security, and other company policies, and initiate corrective action as needed.
Open and close the store; provide backup cashier support as needed.
Use suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
Perform all job duties accurately, honestly, and with integrity.
Perform other necessary and assigned duties.
