About The Position

The Grocery/Courtesy Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role supports the Customer 1st strategy, encourages excellent service among associates, and demonstrates respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and concern for safety. The clerk assists customers with questions, product retrieval and loading, checkout and bagging, carts, and price checks; supports shrink-prevention efforts; and maintains cleanliness and safety throughout the store. The position requires the ability to perform its essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Help customers feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the store.
• Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer questions or make product suggestions.
• Assist with customer requests, including retrieving, lifting, and locating products.
• Greet customers, help load merchandise onto the conveyor belt, bag merchandise, and thank customers.
• Assist with removing merchandise from the bottom of customers’ shopping carts for checkout.
• Follow customer bagging preferences politely and use best practices for reusable, plastic, and paper bags to prevent damage.
• Offer assistance loading bags into customers’ cars.
• Control shrink by following company initiatives, including bottom-of-basket inspections, cart transfers, and proper placement of go-backs.
• Retrieve carts from the parking area with a cart strap, push no more than six carts at a time, and return carts to designated areas.
• Learn the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
• Observe scheduled shift operating hours and display a positive, friendly attitude.
• Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
• Conduct and log safety sweeps by inspecting the entire sales floor every half hour.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Maintain cleanliness in areas including lobbies, vending machines, restrooms, the sales floor, spills, check stands, carts, hand baskets, and the front of the building and parking lot.
• Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
• Collaborate with Front-end associates to encourage teamwork.
• Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with current merchandising, customer service, cash control, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
