About The Position

The Grocery/Courtesy Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role supports the company’s Customer 1st strategy, promotes excellent service among associates, and demonstrates respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and concern for safety. The clerk assists customers with product questions, checkout and bagging, locating and loading merchandise, and cart retrieval. The position also involves maintaining cleanliness, conducting and logging scheduled safety sweeps, following shrink-prevention and store-control practices, and collaborating with front-end associates.

Requirements

Must be able to meet the minimum physical demands of the position.
Must be 16 or older.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Help create a welcoming environment and answer customer questions about products sold in the store.
Maintain knowledge of products in the department, answer product questions, and make suggestions.
Assist with customer requests, including retrieving, lifting, and locating products.
Greet customers, help place merchandise on the conveyor belt, bag merchandise, and thank customers.
Remove customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the bascart for checkout.
Follow customer preferences for bagging politely and use best practices to prevent damage to items.
Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
Control shrink by following company initiatives, including bottom-of-basket inspections, cart transfers, and proper placement of go-backs.
Retrieve carts from the parking area using a cart strap, push no more than six carts at once, and return them to designated areas.
Learn the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
Observe scheduled shift operating hours and display a positive, friendly attitude.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect the entire sales floor every half hour and execute, maintain, and log a legitimate safety sweeps program.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Maintain cleanliness in areas including lobbies, vending machines, restrooms, the sales floor, spill areas, check stands, carts, hand baskets, and the front of the building and parking lot.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Collaborate with front-end associates to encourage teamwork.
Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Ensure compliance with merchandising, customer service, cash control, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
