About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger bags customers’ groceries at checkout, assists with merchandise and carts, helps customers load bags into their cars, and supports store cleanliness, safety, and customer service. The role also includes basic shelf conditioning, returning merchandise to shelves, informing customers of grocery specials, handling and assembling seasonal merchandise, locating products, conducting price checks, and following food safety regulations and company guidelines. The position requires working cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, managing conflict constructively, acting with honesty and integrity, and seeking assistance when needed. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Bag groceries at checkout, aiming for at least five items per bag while preventing damage to items.
Follow best practices for bagging items in reusable, plastic, and paper bags.
Assist with removing customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the bascart for checkout.
Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
Perform basic shelf conditioning.
Inform customers of grocery specials.
Return merchandise to store shelves.
Gather bascarts and return them to designated areas.
Clean spills and collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot.
Clean all areas inside and outside the store.
Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
Understand the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Help customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products in the department and throughout the store.
Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
