About The Position

The GM/HBC Manager is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. The position manages the grocery store’s variety department, which handles primarily non-grocery items, and is accountable for department results in customer service, sales, gain, and cost control. The manager trains, supervises, schedules, and assigns duties to GM/HBC Clerks; follows division merchandising guidelines; and changes signs and prices as directed. The role includes daily inventory and ordering, checking deliveries for completeness, maintaining appropriate stock, replenishing and organizing shelves and displays, rotating products, removing expired items, and keeping the department and storage area clean and neat. The manager also monitors inter-office mail and the company web page for updates and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
Ability to work independently when necessary.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service according to employer standards and company policy.
Train, schedule, and supervise GM/HBC workers to maintain appropriate department staffing.
Address customer problems related to sales, service, products, or operation of the GM/HBC area.
Maintain cleanliness of the department and storage area.
Replenish displays and shelves as needed.
Remove expired items from shelves daily.
Perform daily inventory and order supplies to maintain adequate stock.
Write and enter orders into the store computer.
Check incoming orders for completeness.
Follow division merchandising guidelines and change signs and prices as directed.
Monitor inter-office mail and the company web page daily for updated information.
Perform other duties as assigned.
