Geography & Map Expert (AI Community)
About The Position
TELUS Digital is seeking Geography enthusiasts to help AI models interpret real-world maps and satellite imagery. Contributors review imagery and maps to verify that the AI correctly identifies roads, buildings, landmarks, and other geographic features. The work includes confirming landmarks, checking whether suggested routes are feasible, verifying local place names, and tagging environmental features such as forests, rivers, and construction sites. Contributors work remotely as part of TELUS Digital’s global AI Community. They can manage their own schedules, with work subject to project availability and quality requirements. Applicants must complete a subject-specific qualification exam and ID verification. The opportunity is offered on an independent contractor basis and does not create an employment relationship with TELUS Digital. Pay rates currently range from $18 to $50 USD per hour; payment terms are defined for each project.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geography, Urban Planning, or Environmental Science.
- Native-level proficiency in the contributor’s primary language.
- Basic (B1) English proficiency to communicate with the project team.
- Ability to read maps and recognize shapes and patterns in satellite imagery.
- Completion of a subject-specific qualification exam and ID verification.
Responsibilities
- Review satellite images to confirm whether the AI has correctly identified landmarks such as hospitals and shopping malls.
- Check maps and routes to identify suggestions that are infeasible for the selected mode of travel.
- Verify local names for neighborhoods, streets, and natural features.
- Tag environmental features on maps, including forests, rivers, and new construction sites.
- Contribute geographic expertise and local knowledge to the evaluation and improvement of AI systems.
