About The Position

At TriHealth, Genetic Counseling Assistants play a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered precision medicine. This is a professional, patient-facing role where your organization, communication skills, and attention to detail directly support patients, genetic counselors, and the broader care team throughout the genetic counseling journey.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an approved program for specific field of study in Science
  • Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
  • Microsoft Office
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Knowledge of medical and genetic terminology
  • Ability to handle patient information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ability to seek advice from or refer related problems to appropriate staff
  • Ability to operate computer, telephone, printer, copier and fax
  • Must be proficient in Progeny and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare genetic counseling charts with all needed documents and pertinent pathology/medical reports, format and print pedigrees, facilitate data entry of health history questionnaires, calculate appropriate risk models, assist with preauthorization for visit and/or testing, and assist with the communication to appropriate labs to verify insurance coverage
  • Coordinates paperwork and authorization for family/physician communication, schedules patients for follow-up, enters post-visit documentation, prepares patient test requisitions for genetic and research testing with basic genetics and testing requirements. Assists in necessary preparation of documentation for test processing, assuring the safe package of blood and saliva, works closely with various laboratories/insurance during the pre-authorization process, executes requests for medical necessity letters, and prepares genetic test results for scanning into EMR. Communicates personalized genetic information to patients under the direct supervision/guidance of a genetic counselor.
