About The Position

This position will work closely with members of the clinical genomics laboratory to provide excellent and timely patient care by providing support for clinical and research laboratory testing activities to maximize the efficiency of genetic counseling efforts. Position assists with items related to both clinical and research laboratory testing workflows while serving as a liaison between the testing laboratory and those in the Department, University, and outside collaborators/clinicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support - American Red Cross
  • Basic Life Support Certification or obtains certification within one month of employment.
  • Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical sciences, psychology, healthcare or related field.
  • Prior work experience, preferably in clinical research support.

Responsibilities

  • Contact insurance companies to facilitate genetic test coverage and assist in the writing of letters of medical necessity.
  • Submit and track authorizations/benefits for genetic testing and communicate outcomes with ordering providers.
  • Complete patient information on lab requisition forms for genetic testing.
  • Compile clinical information for laboratory testing and compile/disseminate specimen collection kits.
  • Coordinate and provide instructions for patient testing and reconcile misinformation.
  • Contact ordering providers with general inquiries and status of patient results.
  • Assist the team with triaging incoming requests from patients and providers as well as managing/monitoring testing workflows.
  • Serve as a liaison between the clinical testing lab, pathology billing, and clinical support staff.
  • Contact ordering providers for follow-up information, general inquiries, as well as return of routine and RUSH test results.
  • Routinely collect clinical data under clinical translational research protocols and assist with daily record-keeping.
