About The Position

The General Merchandise Lead provides direction for department operations, processes, and conditions, and plans, guides, and empowers team members in daily work. The role models exceptional customer experience, supports department goals, and helps peers develop strategies for success. The Lead may also serve in a lead capacity in other store departments and perform other duties as assigned or required.

Responsibilities

Engage peers to provide customers with a strong shopping experience, including an exceptional checkout experience.
Communicate with team members and assign daily work tasks.
Mentor and coach team members to help exceed customer service and sales goals, maintain department standards, and complete required training.
Support training new team members and cross-training high-potential talent; provide peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards.
Work with leadership on department scheduling to support team engagement, customer service, sales, and profitability.
Monitor product rotation and dating policies to ensure product freshness.
Guide the team in complying with food safety standards and regulations and working safely in accordance with 200% accountability.
Lead team members in ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and displaying products, where applicable.
Create an environment that supports Meijer culture, including valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Operate a register and handle cash when needed.
Operate powered equipment, where applicable.
Participate in period-end inventories, where applicable.
Act in a lead capacity in other departments throughout the store when required.
