About The Position

The General Merchandise Lead provides direction on department operations, processes, and conditions, and plans, guides, and empowers team members in day-to-day work. The role models an exceptional customer experience, supports department goals, and influences peers to help maintain a successful department. The Lead engages and communicates with team members, assigns daily work, mentors and coaches peers, supports training and cross-training, and works with leadership on department scheduling. The position helps ensure customer service and sales goals are met, products are fresh and properly handled, food safety and safe-work standards are followed, and ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and displays are completed where applicable. Duties may also include register operation and cash handling, powered equipment operation, period-end inventories, and serving in a Lead capacity in other store departments. Other duties may be assigned or required.

Responsibilities

Engage peers to provide customers with the best possible shopping experience, including an exceptional checkout experience.
Communicate with team members and assign daily work tasks.
Mentor and coach team members to help exceed customer service and sales goals, maintain Meijer standards, and complete required training.
Support training new team members and cross-training high-potential talent, and provide peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards.
Work with leadership on department schedule writing to support team member engagement, customer service, store sales, and profitability.
Monitor execution of rotation and dating policies to ensure product freshness.
Guide the team in compliance with food safety standards and regulations and safe work practices aligned to 200% accountability.
Lead team members in completing ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product displays, where applicable.
Help create an environment that supports Meijer culture, including valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Operate a register and handle cash when needed.
Operate powered equipment, where applicable.
Participate in period-end inventories, where applicable, to help achieve goals.
May act in a Lead capacity in other store departments.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
