About The Position

Wilson Elser is seeking a General Liability Associate Attorney for its Madison, New Jersey office. The attorney will represent sophisticated insurance carriers, self-insured companies, and their insureds in complex legal matters in New Jersey state and federal courts. The role involves independently managing civil litigation cases from intake through resolution, while collaborating with partners and other attorneys on case strategy and trial preparation. The position offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement and is full-time.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Admission to practice in New Jersey and good standing.
At least 5 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
Experience defending general liability, premises liability, and commercial auto liability claims.
Experience with motion practice, report writing, discovery, and depositions.
Familiarity with New Jersey court rules and eCourts filing.
Superior written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines across a busy caseload.

Responsibilities

Independently manage a civil litigation caseload from intake through resolution.
Draft pleadings, written discovery, and dispositive and non-dispositive motions.
Take and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and experts.
Handle court appearances, case management conferences, arbitrations, and mediations.
Prepare initial, pre-trial, and status reports for clients and claims professionals.
Work closely with partners and other attorneys on case strategy and trial preparation.
Assist with trial preparation and trials as needed.
