About The Position

Valmont is seeking a highly motivated individual for a General Shop Help position in its Global Coatings Division. The role involves supporting work in the racking, kettle, and finishing departments to prepare steel products for pickling and galvanizing, support product quality, move and finish materials, and maintain a safe and clean plant environment.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Six months of previous experience in a galvanizing position.
• Six months of experience with hand tools and gauges, including impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, taps, oxygen acetylene torches, and mill gauges.
• Six months of previous experience operating a bridge crane.
• High awareness of safety at all times.

Responsibilities

• Prepare products and materials for galvanizing by hanging them on spreader bars and staging tubular products.
• Prepare small parts for galvanizing and hand-wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing.
• Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking.
• Perform paddling functions to improve the quality of galvanized products and use air guns to remove zinc needles.
• Use air- or electric-powered tools to prepare steel for pickling or galvanizing, and operate a kettle hoist using a handheld remote control.
• Work safely and help protect self and others from accidents and injuries.
• Move lightweight steel pieces by hand between locations in the plant and yard.
• Assist with plant cleanup and housekeeping.
• Deburr galvanized products using air or electric tools and files.
• Stack materials for shipment and remove chains, wires, and products from universal racks.
