About The Position

Des Moines Independent Community School District is hiring teachers for the 2027–2028 school year. Candidates interested in middle or high school math or science teaching will be considered. Placement will be determined with Human Resources closer to the start of the school year. The salary ranges referenced in the posting are from the 2026–2027 salary schedule; the 2027–2028 schedule has not yet been approved.

The General Education Teacher plans and delivers a high-quality educational program that addresses students’ academic and social-emotional needs. Specific requirements may vary according to district needs. The position is classified as a teacher, is exempt, and has a calendar that varies by assignment. The listed workday is 7.75 hours.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid Iowa teaching license with the appropriate endorsement code for the teaching assignment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse workforce and student population.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Attend work promptly and regularly.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.

Responsibilities

• Deliver daily lessons aligned with state and district standards, meeting students’ individual needs and supporting growth.
• Create an engaging, affirming, and meaningful classroom environment that meets students’ academic and social-emotional needs.
• Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
• Monitor student learning daily.
• Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
• Communicate regularly with families.
• Participate in professional development.
• Demonstrate consistent progress toward meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
