About The Position

General Cleaners maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned areas at Shelby County Schools. The role involves performing a range of custodial tasks, including floor care, waste removal, restroom cleaning and sanitizing, and cleaning furnishings, surfaces, windows, and fixtures. Cleaners may also perform other duties as directed by a custodial supervisor or designated representative. The work takes place in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment and requires efficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to meet established production and service time frames. The position may involve extensive walking and standing, lifting and carrying items, and working in temperatures ranging from hot to cold.

Background check required.
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, and pull.
Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to walk and stand extensively for the duration of the shift.
Sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within established production and service time frames.
Ability to work in temperatures ranging from hot to cold.

Nice To Haves

High school degree preferred, but not required.
Previous cleaning experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Sweep, dust, dust mop, damp mop, vacuum, extract carpet, and strip and wax floors.
Remove trash and recycling.
Clean and sanitize restrooms and locker rooms.
Polish outside areas within 10 feet of entryways.
Wash windows and clean desks, walls, furniture, doors, entry glass, interior glass, countertops, chalkboards, whiteboards, blinds, and light fixtures.
Perform other duties as directed by a custodial supervisor or designated representative.
