About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to keep them clean, sanitary, and orderly, along with other tasks related to the area of assignment. Duties include high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, bathroom cleaning, emptying trash, floor dusting, vacuuming and sanitizing, and cleaning grounds, public common areas, and the food court. The cleaner inspects completed rooms, corrects issues as needed, and maintains courteous, quiet, and helpful interactions with customers. Other duties may be assigned by a supervisor or Account Manager, including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices and the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain the physical condition required for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods; lifting or carrying 1–30 pounds; pushing and pulling with 5–35 pounds of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
Sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination sufficient to perform cleaning tasks, maintain safety standards, and operate equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

High-dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot-clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows with appropriate solutions.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets; check and refill soap and paper dispensers.
Empty trash cans, wipe them if needed, and install clean liners.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture, and clean and dispose of dust appropriately.
Clean exterior areas throughout the day, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, parking lots, benches, vending machines, window ledges, and public-area glass; remove gum and spot-clean spills.
Dust mop and spot mop hallways and maintain public common areas, including glass, planters, corners, edges, and high dusting of window areas.
Clean and sanitize food-court tables, return chairs under tables, spot-clean spills, empty trash, and clean and stack trays using the tray power washer.
Sanitize floors, including under furniture and behind doors.
Inspect completed rooms, review cleaning steps, check furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls through spotting and high dusting daily.
Provide courteous customer service, answer or refer questions, report broken or out-of-order items, work quietly, and remain in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance and report unfinished assignments to a supervisor at the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed, potentially including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.
