General Cleaner: Nassau County Long Island
About The Position
Signature Cleaning Services Inc. of Long Island is seeking dependable and detail-oriented General Cleaners/Porters to provide custodial and janitorial services at various client locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Responsibilities may vary by assignment and facility but generally include maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary environments through routine cleaning and maintenance tasks. Duties may include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, restroom cleaning and sanitization, replenishing supplies, and maintaining common areas in accordance with client and company standards. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures, comply with site-specific requirements, and consistently deliver high-quality service while promoting a professional and welcoming environment for building occupants and visitors. The ideal candidate is reliable, able to work independently, attentive to detail, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Previous work experience as a Porter, Janitor or Custodian preferred
- Hands on experience with industrial cleaning equipment
- Ability to stand, bend, squat and lift up to 40 + lbs.
- Solid verbal communication skills to interact with cleaning staff, technicians, and customers (English or Spanish)
- Availability to work in flexible shifts (e.g., weekends and evenings)
- Must be reliable and professional
- Cleaning experience and ability to operate cleaning equipment preferred
- High School Diploma/ GED (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Collect and dispose of garbage
- Sweep and mop floors; vacuum carpets; clean restrooms
- Dust and wipe high-touch areas
- Ensure building entrances are always free of clutter
- Address minor technical issues, such as changing light bulbs
- Report damages, coordinate with technicians, and oversee repairs
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies
- Place safety hazard signs, including wet paint and wet floor signs
- Respond to major spills or other cleaning emergencies
- Adhere to health and safety regulations
