About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, push/pull using both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, clean sinks, toilets, and dispensers, and refill dispensers as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture, using appropriate techniques and tools.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, and cleaning public area glass as necessary.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables; spot clean spills; empty and clean trash cans; remove dirty trays to the washroom and clean them; and police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Hall – lobby – stairs – water fountains – furniture – wall spotting and high dusting is done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to supervisor, work quietly, stay in assigned area unless directed otherwise, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, and report to supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
