About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves performing various tasks related to the area of assignment, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Requires sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks, safety standards, and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink area, toilet exterior, and using a Johnnie Mop for the toilet interior, paying attention to the rim.
Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
Dust or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Clean and maintain public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, maintaining planters, and performing high dusting of window areas at least twice a week.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps, and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
Perform daily cleaning tasks for hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, including high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring to a supervisor, reporting broken or out-of-order items, working quietly, staying within the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
