About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, push/pull using both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering, overhead reaching, and requiring depth perception, hand and eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints and smudges from surfaces. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, toilet bowls, soap dispensers, and paper dispensers. Refill dispensers as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture and in restrooms, using appropriate techniques.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, high dusting, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting of window areas.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean for spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Clean accumulated dirty trays using a tray power washer and stack clean trays.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room.
  • Hall – lobby – stairs – water fountains – furniture – wall spotting and high dusting is done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, and report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
