About The Position

This position performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. The role involves tasks such as high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash cans, floor care (dusting or vacuuming), grounds care, cleaning public common areas including food courts, and floor sanitizing. The cleaner is also responsible for inspecting their work, maintaining customer relations, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for the performance of assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
  • Clean bathrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers.
  • Empty and clean trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, and wiping benches and vending machines.
  • Clean public common areas, including dusting and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and clean trays using a tray power washer.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas are covered.
  • Inspect completed work, mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
  • Maintain positive customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, and helpful.
  • Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and stay within the assigned work area.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction, bonneting, auto scrubbing, buffing).
