About The Position

This position performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. The role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, or trash, pushing/pulling with both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at the waist, knees, and neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink area, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, working from the back of the room towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned. Clean mopheads with a counter brush and dispose of dust.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters inside and out, checking for cobwebs and performing high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, and checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as backing out of the room.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing room cleaning, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks for hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
  • Practice good customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring them to the appropriate person, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
