About The Position
Parkwest Bicycle Casino is seeking a reliable Gardener to maintain clean, healthy, and appealing outdoor grounds. The role involves planting, pruning, mowing, and general landscape maintenance, including care of lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and irrigation systems. The Gardener also maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment, follows work orders or instructions from the Facilities Manager/Supervisor, and assists the Engineering department with miscellaneous projects. The assigned work area must be kept safe. The position may require on-call and overtime work, and availability for all shifts, including weekends and evenings.
Requirements
- Must pass mandatory screening, including a background check and drug test.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Able to deal effectively and interact well with customers and co-workers.
- Able to resolve problems and conflicts diplomatically and tactfully.
- Available for full-time work, including weekends and evening scheduling, and able to work varied shifts and flexible schedules.
- Must be able to work on-call and overtime when necessary.
- Able to communicate clearly with team members.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively.
- Able to work independently and within a team environment.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of grounds maintenance experience and knowledge of plant cultivation and fertilizer use.
- Able to lift and carry tools, supplies, and inventory weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Able to perform all essential duties with or without accommodation.
Responsibilities
- Maintain turf and landscaping on Casino grounds.
- Mow grass and apply fertilizer and chemicals for weed and pest control.
- Install and maintain sprinkler systems.
- Plant and care for landscaping and turf, including grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Care for established lawns through mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, sowing seed, removing thatch, and trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, and walls.
- Prune or trim trees, shrubs, and hedges using appropriate tools.
- Water lawns and shrubs.
- Operate vehicles and powered equipment, including mowers, tractors, forklift vehicles, blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, and axes.
- Sharpen tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
- Make minor repairs to maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers and spreaders.
- Read work orders or follow instructions from the Facilities Manager/Supervisor.
- Maintain the assigned work area in a safe condition.
- Assist the Engineering department with miscellaneous projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
