About The Position

The Full-Stack Product Engineer will join 3M’s Global Network & Telecom Services organization as part of the Network Automation team, building software, automation, and AI-driven operations capabilities that help keep the global network reliable and efficient. The engineer will own the product surface of internal tools—including dashboards, network topology and graph visualizations, operational data views, and conversational AI-assistant interfaces—as well as the APIs and data integrations behind them. The role contributes across internally built platforms, vendor-provided tools that 3M extends and integrates, and new initiatives. The engineer will work closely with AI engineers, integrating their services, agents, and tools into production experiences while developing AI engineering skills. The position may require occasional work outside normal business hours. The work location is Maplewood, Minnesota; travel may include up to 15% domestic or international travel, and relocation is not authorized.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, completed and verified before starting, and five years of IT experience in a manufacturing, private, public, government, or military environment; OR a high school diploma/GED, completed and verified before starting, and the stated eight (10) years of IT experience in a manufacturing, distribution center, private, public, government, or military environment.
  • Five years of experience developing back-end or integration code, for example in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js, and comfort working with YAML.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Git, version control, and CI/CD concepts.
  • Interest and aptitude in applying AI, such as integrating LLM/AI services and agents into applications, and a desire to grow AI engineering skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a globally distributed team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience building data-dense or operational UIs, such as dashboards, graph or topology visualizations, large data tables, or real-time/streaming data interfaces (for example, WebSockets).
  • Experience building conversational or agent-driven interfaces, or integrating LLM/generative AI services such as AWS Bedrock or Azure OpenAI, including streaming responses and tool-calling output.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases, GraphQL, and designing or consuming APIs.
  • Front-end testing experience with tools such as Jest, Playwright, or Cypress; experience with design systems and accessibility (WCAG).
  • Working knowledge of network concepts and data such as inventory/CMDB, DNS/IPAM, routing, and switching.
  • Experience integrating or extending vendor-provided platforms and working across multiple tools and systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure), containers, or Linux.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks and ITSM processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain front-end internal tools and platforms, including operational dashboards, network topology and graph visualizations, large data views, and real-time or streaming displays, using TypeScript and modern web frameworks such as React.
  • Build and refine conversational and agent-driven interfaces, including chat interfaces, streaming responses, and rendering of tool or agent output, to provide natural-language access to network and inventory data.
  • Build and maintain APIs, services, and data integrations that reconcile and expose data from sources such as CMDB, cloud inventory, Axonius, DNS/IPAM, and IT service management systems.
  • Contribute to internally built platforms, vendor-provided tools that are extended or integrated, and new cross-team initiatives.
  • Integrate AI services, agents, and tools into production user experiences, including LLM assistants, summarization and triage, anomaly detection, and natural-language query capabilities; use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery.
  • Use Git, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD to build, test, and deploy repeatably and audibly, applying front-end quality practices such as component and UI testing, accessibility, and performance.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into technical solutions; document workflows and runbooks; provide support escalation as needed; and collaborate with a globally distributed team using Agile/Scrum practices.
  • Comply with corporate policies, procedures, and security standards while performing assigned duties.
  • Contribute to a strong Environmental, Health, and Safety culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
