About The Position

The Frontend Engineer will work on Stripe’s Data Product Experiences team, which makes merchant-facing data products intuitive, delightful, and actionable. The team builds client-side rendering engines, high-performance charting libraries, and interactive visualization interfaces for high-throughput streaming telemetry and real-time merchant analytics.

The role involves architecting and building high-performance client-side data rendering engines capable of smoothly visualizing tens of thousands of data points. The engineer will collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, Front-End Systems Engineers, and other teams to develop data visualization experiences that reduce cognitive load and visual fatigue. The position also contributes reusable visualization components and charting standards to Stripe’s core design system, and provides technical leadership and mentorship.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of relevant web front-end development or creative technology experience in a tech-forward, product-driven company.
• Advanced experience with React, modern TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5, CSS/Sass, and modern web application architecture.
• Demonstrated experience building interactive web charts and visualizations using tools or libraries such as D3.js, Recharts, SVG, Canvas, or WebGL, with a focus on data density and visual-perceptual hierarchy.
• Track record of writing clear, elegant, well-tested code in a collaborative team environment.
• Deep experience designing and developing web applications that work seamlessly across modern browsers, screen dimensions, and devices.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

• A portfolio or frontend codebase demonstrating interactive dashboards, custom charting engines, creative tools, or design systems.
• Strong understanding of formal design principles, including typography, layout, color theory, data-density balance, and visual proportion beyond basic web UI.
• Experience building sophisticated interactive tools involving complex client-side state management, caching, and real-time data-fetching strategies.
• Advanced React proficiency, particularly in fluid interactions, subtle animations, visual refinement, and web-rendering performance.
• Experience with accessibility standards for interactive charts and graphs, A/B testing frameworks, synthetic monitoring, and performance-profiling tools.

Responsibilities

• Partner with designers and product managers to prototype, build, and ship interactive analytics dashboards and data visualization tools across the Stripe Dashboard.
• Develop scalable, reusable visualization components and charting standards for Stripe’s core design system.
• Design frontend integration strategies and robust API contracts to support adoption of analytics components by partner teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship through code reviews, pairing, and promotion of frontend engineering best practices.
• Collaborate across Product, Design, Data Infrastructure, and Analytics teams to deliver high-quality, data-driven user experiences.
• Optimize rendering performance and state management for web applications handling large datasets, real-time telemetry, and high-density visual components.
• Architect and build high-performance client-side data rendering engines to smoothly visualize tens of thousands of data points.
