About The Position

Revel is building a data platform that receives, stores, and serves telemetry from customers’ hardware. The platform helps customers develop and operate hardware more effectively. The Frontend Software Engineer will build browser-based tools for engineers to explore telemetry across time scales ranging from nanoseconds to years, compare test events, and calculate derived channels. The role also involves maintaining strong performance when rendering many data series and visualizations, and designing application state for data selection, filtering, calculations, plot layouts, and shared views. The engineer will learn how hardware engineers analyze telemetry, define intuitive user experiences that also support expert workflows, and ship and iterate on analysis capabilities with hardware engineers. They will build visualization plugins for use cases such as numeric time series, console logs, videos, maps, and custom binary viewers; prototype and evaluate LLM-assisted analysis workflows; and work directly with customers to understand needs, demonstrate prototypes, and incorporate feedback. The role is based in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Seattle. Applicants must meet U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Requirements

  • Ability to build reliable, maintainable frontend applications using React and TypeScript.
  • Ability to make complex workflows understandable and explain the tradeoffs behind design decisions.
  • Willingness to work directly with users and understand the engineering problems behind their requests.
  • Demonstrated technical depth through something built in a job, research, coursework, open source, or an independent project.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State, to meet ITAR requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with time series visualization, data-analysis tools, or performance-intensive browser applications.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how hardware engineers explore and analyze telemetry.
  • Define a vision for an elegant user interface that makes common workflows intuitive while providing powerful tools for expert users.
