Frontend Engineer

Quo•Canada, KY
•$153,000 - $200,000•Remote

About The Position

We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to join our Communication squad, part of the Workflow pillar. Communication owns the core of what Quo does: calling, messaging, voicemail, transcription and the workflows that support them. You'll build the interfaces thousands of businesses rely on every day, working alongside product, design, backend engineers and three Senior Frontend Engineers who will support you on architecture while you take on sizeable pieces of work and own them from end to end. This is a role with real room to grow, and we're looking for someone who wants to reach the next level.

Requirements

  • Experience working with React and TypeScript
  • Understand how data flows from the backend to the frontend, including GraphQL, schemas and the basics of database design
  • Write your own tests (we use Playwright) and are comfortable with integration and unit testing
  • Enjoy solving problems and collaborating with others to design and build a delightful end user experience
  • Some experience with web performance, observability, and accessibility
  • Take ownership of your work and understand the importance of communication. Hold yourself to a high standard and help empower others to do the same
  • Be a team player. Happy to start with bug fixes and documentation to make the team better, admit mistakes and gaps in your knowledge without shame, and quick to back a better idea than your own
  • Be proactive and self-driven in a fully remote team. Keep work moving without being chased, pick up the next task when you finish one, and can juggle multiple projects and context switch well
  • Know that what you ship is felt by thousands of customers, so be methodical about testing and quality
  • Be intentional about how your work impacts customers, the community, and each other. Practice empathy, generosity, and thoughtfulness as you evaluate tradeoffs in pursuit of the best solution
  • Be curious. Seek to understand the 'why' behind things, so that you can better plan and build the 'how'. Don't hesitate to ask questions when necessary. Be a lifelong learner with the drive to grow to the next level
  • Your code is a pleasure for your teammates to read and understand and you strive to ensure it is readable, testable, and maintainable. When working in the codebase, leave things better than you found them
  • Embrace AI and are keen to use it deeply in your day-to-day engineering work, rather than shying away from it

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time messaging technologies such as WebSockets and WebRTC
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and a mature delivery process
  • Experience building with agentic AI workflows (for example, breaking tickets down, generating features, and testing and verifying the output)

Responsibilities

  • Help us re-architect calling and standardize how we work with calling providers.
  • Build new dashboards and tooling, and reliability work that gives us deeper observability into calling performance.
  • Ship new features and delighters such as URL unfurling, custom transcript summaries, group messaging, direct messages and new calling features.
  • Own projects from end to end, with support from senior engineers, and take on more ownership as you get familiar with the platform.
  • Enhance existing features, fix bugs and improve documentation across calling, messaging, voicemail and transcription.
  • Write your own tests and ship safely through our delivery pipelines.

Benefits

  • equity
  • extensive medical coverage
  • a monthly lifestyle stipend
  • a flexible PTO policy
