About The Position

The Police Athletic League (PAL) of New York City is an independent youth development nonprofit organization that has been serving children and young adults across all five boroughs since 1914. PAL offers diverse programs including Head Start, after-school programs, summer day camps, teen centers, college readiness programs, youth employment, and juvenile justice programs, with a strong emphasis on competitive and recreational sports. PAL is dedicated to empowering communities and building positive work environments for its employees. This Part Time Clerk position is responsible for greeting participants and their families, providing information about program services, managing sign-in/sign-out procedures, and tracking program participation data. The Clerk will report to the Youthlink Director and will contribute to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for youth.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma / GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of two years' work experience in a non-profit agency working with youth.
  • Open to learning and growing.
  • All staff will be learning mental health, SEL, and special needs inclusion skills and expected to integrate them.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Able to work 15 hours a week (3 hours a day, 5 days a week).
  • Able to attend 15 hours of orientation prior to the beginning of programming.
  • Able to attend scheduled staff meetings and professional development throughout the year.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Foster social and emotional competencies and mental and physical well-being in a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
  • Ensure a welcoming but controlled entry into the PAL Center.
  • Greet everyone who enters and ensures proper sign-in procedures.
  • Assist Administrative Assistant in entering data or developing materials.
  • Answer questions from parents and staff.
  • Distribute information to youth, staff, and caretakers.
  • Ensure the program’s office procedures are aligned to strategic objectives of PAL, PAL policies and procedures, agency programming calendar, SACC regulations, and the contractual obligations of government and private funding sources.
  • Build positive relationships with youth, colleagues, and caretakers and serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, and behavior.
  • Respond appropriately when time-sensitive mental health services are needed such as suicide prevention, grief, and loss due to death or incarceration of a family member.
  • Interact with caretakers and keep open lines of communication.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
