About The Position

Knight Transportation is hiring a Freight Broker for its Logistics Division (3PL and Brokerage). This onsite position is based in North Phoenix, Arizona, and is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. With close direction, the Freight Broker negotiates freight rates, develops carrier and alliance partnerships, responds to capacity and network needs, and supports strategic growth and profitability targets. The role manages freight transactions from carrier procurement through customer pickup and delivery, while coordinating with customer transportation personnel and head office. The position also contributes to the formulation of transportation strategies and maintains focus on key performance indicators.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in customer accounts, operations, and/or billing.
• Basic knowledge of transportation and third-party logistics (3PL).
• A bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Results-oriented approach.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and a proven ability to solicit new customers and meet specific revenue targets.
• Strong sense of urgency and purpose, with a bias for action.
• Familiarity with and knowledge of TMS and brokerage systems.
• Self-confidence and ability to work independently without close supervision.
• Ability to operate in a busy, demanding environment.
• Ability to understand and enforce company policies.
• Knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Office Suite tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and transfer knowledge.
• Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and strong problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate freight rates for KNX's Logistics Division (3PL and Brokerage), and recommend lane-rate adjustments based on market changes.
• Build and optimize carrier partner relationships, alliance partnerships, and other business relationships to respond to capacity requirements and network needs.
• Deliver on strategic growth initiatives and growth and profitability targets.
• Analyze freight market conditions to maximize profit and negotiating power for each transaction.
• Evaluate carriers and lanes based on factors including capacity and utilization, insurance, price, safety, and service.
• Negotiate rates and terms with carrier partners and customers.
• Communicate market changes and carrier opportunities to leadership and other stakeholders.
• Manage the freight process from purchasing capacity from an outside carrier through customer pickup and delivery.
• Manage the interface between customers' transportation personnel and head office.
• Integrate applicable customer transportation strategies into the formulation of Swift strategies.
• Maintain focus on key performance indicators.
• Proactively assist others in achieving organizational objectives.
