Specialist, Electrical Engineering - FPGA/ ASIC Hardware Engineer

L3Harris Technologies•Union Township, OH

About The Position

As a Hardware Engineer at L3Harris, you will be responsible for the architecture, design, and development of next-generation Electronic Safe and Arm Devices using state-of-the-art technologies. The role involves ASIC and FPGA designs for sensor interfaces, sequence verification, A/D and D/A interfaces, communication protocols, state machines, and timer chains used in electronic fuzing devices for Department of Defense weapon systems. Microsemi/Actel is the targeted FPGA platform, and QuestaSim is the simulation tool. The work primarily focuses on Verilog FPGA design, SystemVerilog UVM verification, and C#-based microcontroller development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Verilog for logic design.
  • Programming experience in C for embedded systems, including algorithm development, data-structure manipulation, and highly optimized code implementation.
  • Experience with laboratory tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE debuggers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Familiarity with hardware, software, and firmware development methodologies, including design verification, code reviews, unit testing, prototyping, and product testing.
  • Familiarity with code version-control tools such as Subversion (SVN), Git, or TFS.
  • Knowledge of digital design practices and principles, logic design and architecture, and HDL experience such as Verilog or VHDL.
  • Knowledge of SystemVerilog verification using AVM, VMM, OVM, or UVM.
  • Experience developing C# source code for bare-metal microcontroller development.
  • Good English communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Action-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to handle short-notice needs or requests.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements and define architecture; design and debug FPGA and associated hardware, microcontroller products, and firmware.
  • Develop Verilog HDL targeting antifuse and enhanced Flash FPGAs.
  • Analyze functional issues and profile performance using hardware and firmware in test environments or target host systems.
  • Contribute to process improvements that support hardware-firmware quality and time-to-market.
