About The Position

L3Harris Sensors is seeking an FPGA engineer with VHDL development experience to contribute to FPGA development across requirements, system design, detailed design, and hardware integration. The role supports ultra-high-speed, ultra-large-format infrared cameras for defense applications. It requires proficient knowledge of the job area and may involve practical project-management knowledge.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge of FPGAs and VHDL design, including at least 4 years of direct experience with ModelSim/Questa or equivalent logic simulation tools, MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development, standard streaming and memory-mapped interfaces such as Avalon and AXI, FPGA vendor tools such as Altera and AMD/Xilinx, and Python for task automation.
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Effective communication skills with engineering teams and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in digital hardware design, interfaces, and architecture, including NAND, NOR, and DDR memory interfaces; GigE Vision, Camera Link, CoaXPress, HDSDI, and SDI; high-speed Ethernet (1GbE, 10GbE, 25GbE, 40GbE, 100GbE); SERDES; LVDS, RS-422, I2C, and SPI; and interfacing with custom ASICs.
  • Understanding of project/task management and technical estimating.
  • Ability to facilitate continuous improvement activities.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and test processes.
  • Experience in design for test, quality, reliability, manufacturability, and EMC.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum development methods.
  • Experience writing VHDL that interfaces with a microcontroller.
  • Experience with Universal Verification Methodology.
  • Experience writing timing constraints for FPGA designs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, verify, and integrate VHDL components.
  • Participate in FPGA development, including requirements, system design, detailed design, and hardware integration.
  • Analyze component synthesis, timing, and clock-domain crossings.
  • Participate in VHDL peer reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering teams and customers.
  • Deliver technical presentations, including internal design reviews.
  • Use Python to automate tasks such as FPGA builds and simulations.
