FPGA/ASIC Engineer I

RTX•Cambridge, MA
•$62,900 - $119,700•Onsite

About The Position

RTX is seeking a qualified, eager FPGA/ASIC Electrical Engineer with knowledge of digital systems, HDL, signal conversion, and signal processing, and an interest in developing real-time embedded systems. The engineer will use knowledge of high-speed interfaces and experience across programming domains—including C/C++, VHDL, Verilog, and scripting languages—to create custom R&D hardware. The role is part of a project team that designs, analyzes, and prototypes innovative multi-domain system architectures to address real-world problems. The position is onsite at BBN’s Cambridge, Massachusetts headquarters. It requires U.S. citizenship and an active, existing DoD Secret clearance after the first day. BBN describes a collaborative research environment with experienced government R&D leadership, research scientists who can mentor and support research goals, and business and program support. The position offers a salary range of $62,900–$119,700. Eligible applicants may qualify for benefits and incentive compensation, depending on business unit, position level, and other stated factors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by the start date.
  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience with embedded code and digital logic development processes, including logic design, verification, timing analysis, board bring-up, and validation.
  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience with high-speed interfaces, including Ethernet, serial point-to-point communication (SPI, I2C, sFPDP, or similar), and PCIe.
  • Scripting development experience, such as bash or Tcl.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • An active and existing DoD Secret security clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SoC boards running bare-metal code and configuring and deploying embedded Linux, such as Petalinux.
  • Experience with RFSoC boards and/or high-speed analog signal generation and digitization.
  • Software development experience in C/C++ and Python.

Responsibilities

  • Develop real-time control system architectures that affect the performance of physical systems.
  • Develop detection, classification, localization, and tracking (DCLT) algorithms for novel signal sources in high-noise environments.
  • Support development and testing of experimental testbeds for real-time sensor processing systems, quantum information systems, integrated photonic systems, and other physical sciences pursuits.
  • Support implementation and evaluation of real-time systems in real-world contexts and conduct performance analyses.
  • Design, analyze, and prototype multi-domain system architectures and custom R&D hardware.
