Forward Deployment Engineer MTS

Salesforce•San Francisco, CA
•$117,200 - $194,200

About The Position

Salesforce is hiring a Forward Deployment Engineer to build and deploy reliable automation for Systems Integration Agent, an emerging product within Salesforce AI Labs. The product learns to operate enterprise applications such as SAP, Oracle, and Workday, then converts that knowledge into reusable, code-backed actions. This role combines software engineering and customer-facing deployment work: the engineer will build alongside customers, help put real workflows into production, and turn deployment insights into product improvements. The team operates as a small startup within Salesforce AI Labs, working closely with its leader, engineers, and customers, with autonomy to shape an early product. The engineer will work with process owners and customer IT to select workflows, define success, and obtain the test access and data needed for development. They will run hands-on customer sessions, clarify product capabilities and limitations, write custom JavaScript tools when necessary, and debug failures across browser behavior, agent execution, application state, and backend services. The role also involves testing business outcomes and recovery scenarios, helping launch and stabilize workflows, documenting monitoring and recovery procedures, and coordinating support ownership. Deployment lessons are used to create reusable tools and tests and to help core engineering address recurring product gaps. The position typically involves approximately 40–60% travel, often several days onsite at a time.

Requirements

  • Ability to write and debug JavaScript or TypeScript and reason about web applications, APIs, and data flow.
  • Enjoyment of working directly with users, including asking precise questions, building alongside them, and clearly explaining technical problems.
  • Experience building working software and ability to explain implementation choices, tests, and debugging.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Playwright, browser automation, browser extensions, RPA, or enterprise integration.
  • Experience with agent systems, tool execution, evaluations, or failure recovery.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle, Workday, Salesforce, or similarly complex enterprise applications.
  • Experience in forward-deployed engineering or customer-facing product development.

Responsibilities

  • Work with process owners and customer IT to select workflows, define success, and secure test access and data.
  • Run hands-on sessions that help customers use the product, with clear scope and readiness expectations.
  • Explain product capabilities and limitations, and connect technical results to business outcomes.
  • Write custom JavaScript tools when existing capabilities cannot complete a task.
  • Debug failures across browser behavior, agent execution, application state, and backend services.
  • Build tests for business outcomes, exceptions, partial completion, and recovery.
  • Help launch and stabilize workflows; document monitoring and recovery procedures and establish support ownership with the team.
  • Turn deployment lessons into reusable tools and tests, and work with core engineering to address recurring product gaps.
  • Use AI development tools thoughtfully while remaining accountable for code quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Travel approximately 40–60%, typically for several days onsite at a time, for customer discovery, hands-on build sessions, and launches.
