Forward Deployed Engineer

DigiCert
•$155,000 - $200,000

About The Position

DigiCert’s Forward Deployed Engineer is a software engineer who embeds with a business function to understand how work gets done and deliver production AI solutions that improve efficiency and return on investment. Solutions may include agents integrated with systems of record, automated workflows, and AI-native tools connected to existing architecture. The engineer owns engagements from initial discovery through production and ongoing improvement, serving as the technical lead and focusing on shipped results rather than research, pilots, or demos. The role is part of a small, fast-paced Enterprise AI team with high standards and strong collaboration. It offers substantial ownership, complex problems, direct engagement with internal customers, and a steep learning curve. Engineers measure each solution against a baseline and communicate its business impact to sponsoring executives. They also work with an enablement team to help operators and power users sustain and improve solutions after handoff.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience building and shipping production software that people depend on, including supporting it after launch.
  • At least 2 years of experience building with LLMs in production, including agents, retrieval, tool calling (including MCP), and context engineering.
  • Ability to explain how an LLM system’s performance was measured and improved and what business value it delivered.
  • Strong coding ability in Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, including writing, testing, reviewing, and deploying personal code.
  • Fluency with APIs, webhooks, data pipelines, and authentication, including OAuth, SSO, and role-based access.
  • Daily use of coding agents and the discipline to review and validate their output.
  • Ability to work directly with non-technical users, ask effective questions, learn unfamiliar businesses quickly, and turn messy processes into working software.
  • Good judgment in security- and compliance-sensitive environments, including designing appropriately for data that cannot leave the building.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, including the ability to write an executive-facing memo making the technical and business case.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior forward-deployed engineering, product management, or early-engineer experience.
  • Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Microsoft 365, NetSuite, Jira, and Databricks.
  • Exposure to SOX, FedRAMP, or similar control environments.
  • Experience in a security or PKI company, or another business where trust is the product.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with business users to understand workflows, data, and systems, and identify opportunities where AI can accelerate growth or reduce time and costs.
  • Determine whether to build, buy, or configure solutions, weighing cost, speed, and long-term fit, and lead the technical aspects of vendor evaluations.
  • Build, test, deploy, and support production integrations, agents, and workflows using retrieval, tool use, and human-in-the-loop review.
  • Make AI systems reliable in the face of fragmented data and unpredictable model behavior; identify failure cases and determine where humans should remain in control.
  • Partner with IT, Security, and Engineering on model access, identity and permissions, data connectivity, observability, and evaluation.
  • Turn successful one-off solutions into reusable components that help future engagements ship faster.
  • Establish a baseline and measure each solution’s impact, reporting concrete results such as hours saved, costs avoided, or cycle time reduced to the sponsoring executive.
  • Work with the enablement team to train operators and power users so solutions continue running and improving after the engagement.
