Forward Deployed Engineer

Rockstar•New York, NY
•$175,000 - $215,000•Onsite

About The Position

This is a client-facing technical role at the intersection of customers, product, and applied AI. The Forward Deployed Engineer works directly with American manufacturers to understand their businesses, translate imperfect and ambiguous requirements into clear agent behaviors, and deploy reliable AI agents that deliver measurable value. The role owns customer agent deployments end-to-end, including mapping workflows, prioritizing requirements, writing SOPs and prompts, building evaluations, configuring tools and guardrails, launching with users, and improving performance over time. The work involves real-world inputs such as dirty PDFs, legacy data, tribal knowledge, and edge cases. The engineer works hands-on with LLMs and code, communicates directly with customer teams, and turns field learnings into improved product capabilities and more repeatable deployment processes. The position is based in the company's New York City office five days per week, with travel to customer sites across the United States. The company builds AI workers for manufacturing back-office functions such as quoting, purchasing, invoicing, and sales coordination.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in software engineering or a client-facing technical role such as forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or implementation consulting.
  • Technical strength and comfort writing code, prompting LLMs, building evaluations, and learning new agent-engineering techniques.
  • Ability to scope ambiguous requirements, prioritize aggressively, and design simple solutions within product and operational constraints.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to lead customer workshops, present confidently, and build trust from shop-floor teams to executives.
  • Highly organized and process-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deployments, track details, use metrics, and close loops.
  • Ability to learn complex domains quickly and combine customer empathy with a product mindset to turn field insights into better tools and experiences.
  • Ambitious, resourceful, action-oriented, and team-first approach.
  • Interest in strengthening American manufacturing and willingness to work in person five days a week in NYC and travel to customer sites across the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in manufacturing or another industrial or operationally complex setting.
  • Experience creating SOPs or leading change-management work.
  • Experience integrating and deploying third-party APIs or legacy systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead agent deployments from discovery and requirements scoping through configuration, go-live, quantified ROI, and ongoing improvement.
  • Map complex customer workflows and turn them into focused requirements, SOPs, prompts, tools, guardrails, approvals, and handoffs.
  • Build evaluations and test cases that measure agent quality, expose failure modes, and guide iteration.
  • Configure and launch agents, monitor real-world performance, investigate failures, and improve reliability over time.
  • Run customer workshops, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and close dependencies and follow-ups needed to keep deployments moving.
  • Learn complex customer domains quickly and advocate for customer needs with product and engineering.
  • Turn recurring deployment problems into reusable patterns, tooling, and product improvements that make future launches faster.

Benefits
