Forward Deployed Engineer

Caylent
•$136,000 - $216,000•Remote

About The Position

Caylent’s Anthropic Business Unit is a dedicated AI services practice built in partnership with Anthropic. Forward Deployed Engineers work within client organizations, contributing directly to their standups, codebases, and architecture decisions. They own assigned workstreams, deliver production-quality work, and develop the independent delivery record needed to progress toward solo account ownership. The role has two specializations. Technology-Workforce FDEs embed in engineering, product, and IT organizations to build LLM-native production systems. Operational FDEs embed in business functions such as Finance, HR, Legal, and Supply Chain to build workflow automations and lead AI enablement for non-technical teams. This is a fully remote role at a global company, with employees in Canada, the United States, and Latin America. The role may require up to 50% travel, depending on business needs.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of software engineering, technical delivery, or business systems experience.
  • Ability to self-direct assigned work, managing time, priorities, and delivery quality without daily oversight.
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of LLM application development, cloud-native development, backend engineering, or business automation tooling.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with engineers and credibly with business stakeholders.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and willingness to start delivering before every requirement is defined.
  • Current legal authorization to work in the country where the position is located; visa or work permit sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs such as Claude, AWS Bedrock, or equivalent, including prompt architecture, tool use, and basic agent patterns.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native development, preferably AWS, containerization, or backend systems.
  • Experience rapidly prototyping an ambiguous problem into a working proof of concept.
  • Background in a consulting firm, systems integrator, or professional services environment.
  • For Operational FDEs: deep fluency in at least one business function, such as Finance, HR, Legal, Sales Ops, Supply Chain, or Manufacturing.
  • For Operational FDEs: hands-on experience with Zapier, Power Automate, Airtable, or similar business automation tools.
  • For Operational FDEs: familiarity with enterprise systems such as Salesforce, Oracle, D365, Workday, or ServiceNow.
  • For Operational FDEs: experience supporting AI or digital adoption programs for non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned workstreams end-to-end within a larger engagement.
  • Build and ship solutions in client codebases and environments.
  • Contribute to discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and stakeholder interviews alongside senior FDEs.
  • Translate ambiguous problems into scoped, deliverable work within the assigned scope.
  • Surface risks and blockers early, escalating when decisions exceed the role’s scope.
  • Document and hand off working software or automations that can operate independently after the engagement.
  • Contribute at least one reusable artifact or pattern to the practice before each engagement closes.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • 401(k) plan with company match up to 4% and immediate vesting.
  • Competitive phantom equity.
  • Company-issued laptop.
  • Dental and vision insurance.
  • Term disability and life insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Account.
  • Equipment and office stipend.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • 10 paid holidays.
  • Additional compensation may include bonuses, commissions, equity, and other incentives.
