About The Position

Pramaana Labs is a frontier AI lab building a verification layer for AI. Its technology turns complex human knowledge—such as tax codes, legal rules, clinical guidelines, and security protocols—into formal representations that support inspectable, checkable reasoning. The architecture combines models trained to formalize and reason with a symbolic world model encoded in Lean 4. Founded in 2025 and headquartered in Palo Alto, the company brings together researchers and formal methods experts from Google, DeepMind, and Glean.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work at the intersection of applied research, software engineering, and customer problems. In collaboration with Pramaana engineers and researchers, you will prototype and evaluate verifiable AI workflows, build tools and integrations, and help bring promising systems into production. You will investigate failures and translate field lessons into improvements to research, models, and core technology. The role offers technical guidance while giving you ownership of your work and responsibility for real customer challenges.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including the ability to write clean code, reason about data structures and algorithms, and debug unfamiliar problems.
• First-principles and logical thinking, with the ability to question assumptions, isolate essential problems, and explain reasoning clearly.
• High initiative and a demonstrated habit of learning quickly and making meaningful progress without detailed instructions.
• Genuine interest in Pramaana's mission and reliable, verifiable AI.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including the maturity to remain calm, be candid about uncertainty, and work constructively with customers.
• Comfort learning from more experienced engineers, asking for help when needed, and incorporating feedback quickly.

Nice To Haves

• A personal project, research prototype, hackathon project, or meaningful open-source contribution built from scratch.
• Experience with Python or TypeScript, APIs, backend development, LLM applications, evaluation, or developer tools.
• Exploration of formal verification, theorem proving, Lean, logic, symbolic reasoning, or AI reliability through work or self-directed learning.
• Hands-on experience working with users, handling unexpected problems, or explaining technical ideas to non-specialists.

Responsibilities

• Work with customers and domain experts to understand technical problems and translate source material, rules, exceptions, and constraints into clear requirements and success criteria.
• Prototype verifiable AI workflows by experimenting with model-based formalization, symbolic reasoning, and proof checking on real-world inputs.
• Create representative examples, edge cases, and benchmarks to evaluate rule fidelity, correctness, coverage, and robustness; reproduce and investigate failures.
• Build and debug applications, APIs, tools, and integrations, iterating with customer teams to explain limitations and help deliver reliable workflows.
• Work with researchers to turn customer issues and evaluation results into better representations, models, proof workflows, and core technology.
• Take responsibility for scoped work, communicate blockers early, and turn one-off fixes into reusable patterns where possible.
