About The Position

As part of Verizon’s Strategic Analytics and Modeling team within the Transformation Command Center, the Forward Deployed Engineer works on Network Capital Strategy. The role leads complex AI-first and agentic modeling—including statistical, analytical, and advanced analytics—to address long-term network capacity questions and right-size future capacity planning for Verizon’s network investments. With high autonomy, the engineer designs, improves, and executes AI-based capacity simulations and optimization in partnership with business stakeholders, while identifying modeling techniques and technologies that can improve simulation accuracy, speed, and quality. The work supports accurate network capacity plans and helps finance teams assess funding requests for expansion and operational network needs. The engineer develops and operates capacity models for the three-year capital budget, secures agreement on model designs, and delivers hardened deployments with documentation and plans for future automation. The role also pilots AI tools and agentic workflows to accelerate development, scenario testing, and stakeholder deliverables; navigates software development roadblocks; presents systems to leaders and engineers; and pursues patents to protect Verizon intellectual property when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work experience, military experience, specialized training, or a combination.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Python or R and SQL, supported by a moderate history or portfolio of accomplished projects.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Alteryx or Knime.
  • Experience building or integrating agentic AI workflows, such as LLM-based agents, tool-use or function-calling pipelines, or automation frameworks, to automate data ingestion, scenario generation, or report synthesis in capital planning and simulation workflows.
  • Ability to work independently, identify next steps when requirements are absent, and determine when to collaborate with the team and business partners.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in business intelligence and analytics, data science, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a similar field.
  • Experience in time-series analysis or forecasting.
  • Strong experience in engineering investigations, performance optimization, or network capacity management.
  • Prior experience navigating engineering budget cycles, such as funding requests for cell-site builds in a regional role.
  • Experience gathering requirements and translating them into specific software practices.
  • Experience with data engineering.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience with high-performance containerized GPU environments.
  • A solid foundation in mathematical optimization, prescriptive modeling, and network capacity management.
  • Experience designing, architecting, and deploying full-stack web applications and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, custom GUIs such as Flet or Marimo, and high-performance BI dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders to develop AI, agent-based, and algorithmic models for network elements and processes supporting the three-year capital budget.
  • Plan and execute the design of new capacity models and obtain general agreement from Network Capital Strategy and business teams.
  • Operate models at multiple checkpoints during the year and create hardened deployments, documentation, and plans for future process automation.
  • Plan model upgrades using alternative algorithms, AI science, or additional input features.
  • Pilot and use AI tools, including agentic workflows, LLM-assisted coding, and automated documentation and reporting, to accelerate model development, scenario testing, and stakeholder deliverables.
  • Adapt to and navigate software development roadblocks, resolve issues independently, and escalate blockers when appropriate.
  • Occasionally present created systems to leaders and engineers.
  • Pursue patents when appropriate to protect Verizon intellectual property.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefit options.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance and AD&D insurance.
  • Identity theft protection.
  • Pet insurance and group home and auto insurance.
  • Matched 401(k) savings plan.
  • Up to 8 company-paid holidays per year and up to 6 personal days per year.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Adoption assistance.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Potential premium pay, such as overtime, shift differential, holiday pay, or allowances, depending on the role.
