About The Position

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at 8am, you embed directly with an internal business function—initially Customer Support, Sales, Marketing, or Finance—to deliver production agentic systems rather than demos. You own the last mile between technical possibilities and the systems a specific team uses day to day, working across engineering, business process, and product discovery. You build the agent, context, and skills yourself, and success is measured by whether the supported function measurably changes how it works.

You own technical delivery end to end, from discovery and scoping through building, launch, and steady-state support. You create agentic systems that automate real workflows, connect internal tools and data, diagnose and resolve live deployment issues, and turn lessons into reusable playbooks, skills, and templates. You also build trust with the teams you support so they need less guidance over time.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Applied AI, Solutions Engineering, or a comparable hands-on, stakeholder-embedded engineering role.
• Ability to build agentic loops—including agents, context, skills/tools, and evaluations—end to end.
• Strong backend or full-stack engineering background, including production-grade Python and/or TypeScript, SQL, and REST API integration patterns.
• Prior experience delivering embedded engineering work and translating business processes into technical systems; ability to share a portfolio of shipped work.
• Comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders in Customer Support, Sales, Marketing, or Finance and translating their processes into technical specifications.
• Builder mindset, with the ability to make sound decisions under ambiguity and prioritize shipping working systems over polished demos.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in fintech or financial services, including payments, banking data, risk/compliance, or subscription billing.
• Hands-on experience with low-code or orchestration tools such as n8n, Zapier, or Make alongside custom-built agents.
• Familiarity with SOC 2, PCI-DSS, or data-security practices for regulated financial data.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), CI/CD, and observability.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical delivery for internal engagements, from discovery and scoping through implementation, launch, and steady-state support.
• Build agentic systems—including agents, context/RAG, skills, tools, and evaluations—to automate real workflows for Customer Support, Sales, Marketing, Finance, or Product teams.
• Write production-grade Python and/or TypeScript and SQL to connect internal systems such as CRM, support tooling, BI platforms, and data warehouses.
• Conduct discovery with business stakeholders and understand their workflows well enough to build systems around their needs.
• Diagnose and resolve issues in live deployments by reproducing problems, debugging across the stack, and iterating with stakeholder teams.
• Translate engagement learnings into reusable playbooks, skills, and templates so successful solutions can be repeated.
• Build trust with supported teams and help them become increasingly self-sufficient.
