About The Position

Newcode is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with law firms and professional-services teams to turn their real-world work into reliable AI workflows using Aurora, Newcode’s visual AI workflow builder. The role reports to the Head of Forward Deployed Engineering and is part of a client pod. It combines client discovery, workflow design and configuration, hands-on scripting, testing, launch support, and ongoing ownership of deployed workflows. The engineer works with clients and senior legal engineers to understand workflow inputs, decisions, exceptions, and approvals. They translate those requirements into Aurora flows, configure prompts, models, document search, and system integrations, and write short Python scripts when platform configuration is insufficient. Work includes use cases such as document intake, clause extraction, contract review, drafting, and multi-step agents. Solutions must respect each firm’s access controls and confidentiality requirements. The role requires testing workflows against real examples and agreed evaluations, addressing failures, and demonstrating performance against legal acceptance criteria. The engineer supports workshops, pilots, user training through the AI Academy, go-live, and ongoing flow ownership with an agreed support plan. They follow the FDE team’s delivery playbook and standards for reviews, testing, traceability, monitoring, and appropriate human review. They also communicate estimates, risks, dependencies, and scope changes, and share recurring product patterns and delivery metrics with Product and Engineering. This is a hybrid role based in Oslo, Norway; Wroclaw, Poland; or Chicago, United States, with three days per week in the office and approximately 25% client travel. The role involves collaboration with colleagues across time zones. Newcode describes itself as a fast-growing, growth-stage legal AI company where priorities can shift and processes continue to evolve. The company offers competitive salary, equity, and bonus, with benefits tailored to local requirements and market practice. Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must be authorized to work in the applicable country without employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in a technical, client-facing role, such as solutions engineering, implementation consulting, technical consulting, automation, or development.
  • Hands-on experience configuring or building with a technical tool, such as workflow automation, integrations, a low-code platform, or software development.
  • Ability to read and write simple Python scripts, work with JSON and REST APIs, and debug solutions built.
  • Regular use of LLMs and an informed understanding of prompting, model reliability, and model limitations.
  • Ability to structure vague processes into clear steps, inputs, and decisions and anticipate failure points.
  • Ability to learn new domains quickly and interest in understanding legal work such as contract review or due diligence; a law degree is not required.
  • Clear communication with both law firm partners and engineers, including honest communication about AI capabilities and limitations.
  • Ability to work in a small team, take legal requirements from a senior legal engineer, meet engineering standards, and seek review early.
  • Comfort working in a startup where direction and priorities may change.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Willingness to work hybrid three days per week in the office in Oslo, Wroclaw, or Chicago and undertake approximately 25% client travel.
  • Authorization to work in the applicable country without employer visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with n8n, Make, Zapier, Power Automate, or a similar workflow tool.
  • Experience building LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agents.
  • Background in law, consulting, audit, finance, engineering, or another professional-services field.
  • Experience with document management systems such as iManage or SharePoint.
  • Experience with law-firm constraints such as matter permissions and ethical walls.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Demonstrated capability; the employer values capability over a particular degree or job title.

Responsibilities

  • Work with clients and senior legal engineers to map current legal workflows, including inputs, decisions, exceptions, and approval steps.
  • Translate workflow requirements into working flows in Aurora, including document intake, clause extraction, contract review, drafting, and multi-step agents.
  • Configure prompts, model choices, document search, and connections to client systems while respecting access controls and confidentiality boundaries.
  • Write Python scripts for custom components, data transformations, or API calls when platform configuration is insufficient, and identify reusable components.
  • Test workflows against real examples and agreed evaluations, identify failures, and fix them before client release.
  • Demonstrate workflow performance against legal acceptance criteria using evidence rather than a demo alone.
  • Run client workshops and pilots, support delivery of the AI Academy for Aurora users, and remain responsible for live flows under an agreed ownership and support plan.
  • Follow the FDE delivery playbook and technical standards, including design and code reviews, testing, traceability, monitoring, and appropriate human review.
  • Provide realistic estimates and raise scope changes, risks, and dependencies early with the senior legal engineer and Head of Forward Deployed Engineering.
  • Share recurring patterns, Aurora feature gaps, repeated client requests, and bugs with Product and Engineering through the Head of Forward Deployed Engineering.
  • Help track delivery time, effort, workflow adoption, and component reuse to improve estimates and client outcomes.
  • Travel to client sites for discovery workshops, pilots, and go-live support, typically about 25% of the time.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, equity, and bonus across all locations.
  • United States (Chicago): medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k); paid time off.
  • Norway (Oslo) and Poland (Wroclaw): statutory benefits plus local offerings, including pension, paid leave, and parental leave.
  • Regular coaching from the Head of Forward Deployed Engineering.
  • Clear technical standards and opportunities to shape Aurora deployment practices and product patterns.
