Forward Deployed Engineer

Verizon•Irving, TX
•$101,000 - $194,000•Hybrid

About The Position

As part of Verizon’s Strategic Analytics and Modeling team within the Transformation Command Center, this role focuses on Network Capital Strategy. The Forward Deployed Engineer leads projects that develop and perform complex AI-first and agentic modeling, including statistical, analytical, and advanced analytics, to address long-term network capacity questions and right-size capacity planning for major Verizon Network investments. The role has substantial autonomy to create, improve, design, and execute AI-enabled capacity simulations and optimization in partnership with business stakeholders. It involves exploring modeling techniques, technologies, and industry trends that can improve simulation accuracy, speed, and quality. The work supports accurate network capacity plans and helps downstream finance teams fund next-year network expansion and operational efforts. The position is hybrid, with a defined work location that includes working from home and at least three days per week in the office. Scheduled weekly hours are 40.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • At least four years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work experience, military experience, or specialized training.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Python or R and SQL, supported by a moderate history or portfolio of completed projects.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Alteryx or Knime.
  • Experience building or integrating agentic AI workflows, such as LLM-based agents, tool-use or function-calling pipelines, or automation frameworks, to automate data ingestion, scenario generation, or report synthesis for capital planning and simulation workflows.
  • Passion for creativity, AI, innovation, process improvement, advanced algorithms, and independent software-design best practices.
  • Ability to work independently, identify next steps without explicit requirements, and determine when to collaborate with teams and business partners.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences, with awareness of the potential impact of projects on spending and customer network experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in business intelligence and analytics, data science, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a similar field.
  • Experience in time-series analysis or forecasting.
  • Strong experience in engineering investigations, performance optimization, or network capacity management.
  • Prior experience with engineering budget cycles, such as funding requests for cell-site builds in a regional role.
  • Experience gathering requirements and translating them into specific software practices.
  • Experience with data engineering.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience with high-performance containerized GPU environments.
  • Solid foundation in mathematical optimization, prescriptive modeling, and network capacity management.
  • Experience designing, architecting, and deploying full-stack web applications and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, custom GUIs such as Flet or Marimo, and high-performance BI dashboards to expose optimization models, streamline data ingestion, and accelerate scenario planning for non-technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop AI, agent-based, and algorithmic models for network elements and processes to support the three-year capital budget, working with stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute the design of a new capacity model, obtaining general agreement from Network Capital Strategy and business teams.
  • Operate the model at multiple checkpoints during the year and create a hardened deployment, documentation, and plans for future process automation.
  • Plan future model upgrades using alternative algorithms, AI science, or additional input features.
  • Use and pilot AI tools, including agentic workflows, LLM-assisted coding, and automated documentation and reporting, to accelerate model development, scenario testing, and stakeholder deliverables.
  • Adapt to and navigate software-development roadblocks, resolve issues independently, and escalate roadblocks when appropriate.
  • Occasionally present created systems to leaders and engineers.
  • Protect Verizon intellectual property by pursuing patents when appropriate.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance and AD&D insurance.
  • Identity theft protection.
