About The Position

Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is hiring part-time Food Service Workers at the Shreveport, Louisiana, VA Medical Center. The role provides service in cafes and retail markets in a fast-paced environment, serving veterans. Workers prepare beverages and food items to customer orders or supervisors’ instructions, follow approved procedures, and maintain workplace cleanliness and food safety. The position involves exposure to varying hot and cold temperatures and requires constant standing and walking, frequent bending, and lifting or moving objects up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Requirements

A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation.
Excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Must be able to stand constantly, walk constantly, and bend frequently.
Subject to a background/security investigation.
Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
Must serve a one-year trial period and receive written certification for continued employment after the trial period.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of experience in the food service industry; preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities

Prepare beverages such as coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and smoothies.
Prepare and assemble food items such as breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, and burritos.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the workplace, equipment, and utensils in compliance with health and safety standards.
Store food properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
Prepare foods according to customer orders or supervisors’ instructions and follow approved procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
