About The Position

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at the Tucson, Arizona, VA Medical Center is hiring part-time Food Service Workers to provide service in its cafes and retail markets. The role serves customers in a fast-paced environment and supports the VCS mission of serving America’s Heroes. Food Service Workers prepare beverages and food items to customer orders or supervisor instructions, following approved procedures. They maintain workplace and equipment cleanliness and sanitation, store food properly to preserve freshness and prevent spoilage, and may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation.
Ability to stand constantly, walk constantly, and bend frequently.
Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Excellent customer service skills.
Must complete a one-year trial period; continued employment after the trial period requires written certification that it advances the public interest.
Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
Subject to a background/security investigation.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of food service industry experience is preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities

Prepare beverages, including coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and smoothies.
Prepare and assemble food items such as breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, and burritos.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the workplace, equipment, and utensils in compliance with health and safety standards.
Store food properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
Prepare foods according to customer orders or supervisors’ instructions, following approved procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
