About The Position

The Food Service Assistant/Food Prep assists with daily food service operations in a school environment and interacts directly with students. The role includes basic food preparation, portioning and serving meals, setting up serving areas, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen and dining areas, and properly storing food and supplies. Additional duties may include washing dishes, cleaning food-preparation equipment and utensils, and assisting with other tasks as needed.

A professional, friendly, service-oriented demeanor is essential to maintaining a positive, welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff. The position reports directly to the Food Service Director. It is a part-time, hourly position scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., when school is in session.

Requirements

• Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and safe food-handling procedures.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, squat, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional demeanor when interacting with students and colleagues.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior food service or food preparation experience preferred.
• Experience working in a school setting is a plus.
