About The Position

The Food Runner is responsible for delivering food promptly and accurately from the kitchen to the appropriate table while maintaining proper food handling procedures. This role involves verifying order details, utilizing the restaurant's seating system to serve guests without asking, and following the direction of the Expeditor to ensure timely and correct food delivery. The Food Runner also inspects food for presentation and temperature, communicates any issues to the Expeditor, and ensures complete orders with all accompaniments are delivered. In the absence of an Expediter, the Food Runner will assume expo duties. The role requires maintaining communication with servers, assisting with beverage and food delivery, monitoring tables, and supporting table maintenance and cleanliness. Additionally, the Food Runner is responsible for maintaining stations, refilling supplies, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards, and possessing knowledge of menu items and allergens. Professional communication with all staff, calm and efficient response during busy periods, and assistance with special events are also key aspects of the position. The role includes performing opening, side work, and closing duties, maintaining a professional appearance, and performing additional duties as assigned. Tasks also include ensuring the cleanliness and safety of working areas, attending training, completing reports, and adhering to all company policies, gaming laws, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or a minimum of one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to prepare, read and comprehend documents.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively with individuals and before groups of people.
  • Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts and perform mathematical functions applicable to business needs including but not limited to counting money.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to qualify for any and all licenses or permits required by local, state or federal law.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver food promptly and accurately from the kitchen to the appropriate table while maintaining proper food handling procedures.
  • Verify table numbers, seat positions, modifiers, and guest requests before leaving the kitchen to ensure every order is delivered correctly.
  • Utilize the restaurant's established pivot point seating system to identify each guest's seat position and serve meals without asking guests who ordered each item.
  • Follow the direction of the Expeditor to ensure food is delivered in the proper sequence and within established service time standards.
  • Announce each entrée when serving guests and verify that all meals are delivered to the correct individual.
  • Inspect food before leaving the kitchen to ensure presentation, temperature, garnishes, and accompaniments meet restaurant standards.
  • Notify the Expeditor immediately of any missing items, incorrect orders, or quality concerns before delivering food.
  • Deliver complete orders, ensuring all sides, sauces, condiments, utensils, and special requests accompany each meal.
  • In the absence of the Expo position, the food runners will expo in the event the Expediter is absent.
  • Maintain communication with servers regarding food delivery status, table readiness, and guest needs.
  • Assist servers by delivering beverages, bread, appetizers, desserts, and other items as requested.
  • Monitor dining room tables after food delivery and communicate guest requests or concerns to the assigned server promptly.
  • Remove unnecessary dishes or service items when appropriate and assist with maintaining a clean and organized dining room.
  • Support table maintenance by assisting with clearing plates, resetting tables, and preparing dining areas for incoming guests when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food runner stations, service areas, and kitchen pass-through windows throughout each shift.
  • Refill service stations with plates, utensils, napkins, condiments, and other supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures in accordance with company policies and local health regulations.
  • Maintain awareness of menu items, daily specials, ingredients, allergens, and preparation methods to answer basic guest questions and support the service team.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with kitchen staff, servers, bartenders, managers, and fellow team members to promote efficient operations.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently during high-volume service periods while maintaining attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
  • Assist with banquet, private dining, catering, or special events as assigned.
  • Perform opening, side work, and closing duties according to established restaurant procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance and adhere to all company uniform and grooming standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support restaurant operations.
  • Perform tasks to ensure an attractive and safe physical appearance of working areas including cleaning and sanitizing counters, display cases, refrigeration units, and beverage machines.
  • Attend all departmental and company training programs or meetings as directed.
  • Compile information, complete and submit reports as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all gaming laws and regulations.
  • Perform all job duties in a safe and responsible manner including keeping areas clean and free of safety hazards, debris and litter.
  • Meet department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements.
  • Any reasonably requested job duty needed to promote productivity in the efficient administration of business, or any reasonable request made by your supervisor or management personnel.
