About The Position

The Food Runner is responsible to deliver food orders from the kitchen to guests’ tables rapidly and accurately. Acting as the point of contact between Front of the House and Back of the House staff. Communicating food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities (e.g. food allergies). As a Food Runner, you help set the standards by which our restaurant is judged through your attitude toward our guests, as well as your professional disposition and presentation. You are always in view of the guest, and you only get one opportunity to make a first impression, so strong communication skills are a must. Your working relationship with the entire staff is vital to the successful operation of the restaurant. You must be able to anticipate guest needs and communicate those needs to the service staff. At times, you may also be asked to take care of a guest need or concern yourself. A successful Food Runner maintains a positive attitude at all times and is able to remain professional and composed in any situation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 or more years of experience in a high end fast paced environment.
  • Food handling certificate (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Attention to detail, cleanliness and safety.
  • Patience and customer-oriented approach.
  • Excellent people skills with a friendly attitude.
  • Responsible and trustworthy.
  • Needs to have strong food menu knowledge.
  • Must know table and position numbers.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to guest tables rapidly and accurately.
  • Act as the contact point between FOH and BOH staff.
  • Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities (e.g. food allergies).
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform.
  • Follow food safety and sanitary guidelines issued by the Health Department.
  • Complete assigned side-work in allocated timeframe.
  • Assist with non F&B inventory.
  • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to guest tables rapidly and accurately.
  • Always follow position numbers recited by Expediter; serve dishes to the correct person without auctioning off the plates, unless to be served for the table. If served to the table, be sure to have sharing silverware ready.
  • Ensure food is served in accordance with safety standards (e.g. proper temperature).
  • Must assist with polishing and restocking.
  • Restock plates and refill sauces as needed.
  • Check in with guests and take additional orders or refill water, as needed.
  • Answer guests’ questions about ingredients and menu items.
  • Must assist with table resetting when asked.
  • Communicate, with respect, to your team any pertinent information that you feel may effect the guests' experience.
  • Communicate with management if there are any issues that you see that could effect the guests' experience.
  • If you see that something is not in the correct place, fix it.
