About The Position
The Floral Clerk is responsible for keeping the Produce Department stocked and clean during business hours, assisting customers, and maintaining a friendly, energetic demeanor. The role follows procedural guidelines set by the Produce Department and includes stocking and caring for produce and floral products, supporting sales and customer service, and participating in the cut fruit and vegetable program. Team members are also expected to maintain a positive attitude and contribute to team goals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency degree.
- Maintain the highest level of customer service.
- Ability to adapt to a changing, high-volume retail environment and work in a cross-functional team.
- Ability to take initiative when problems arise and adapt to varied situations.
- Advanced attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working with peers and senior management.

- Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
- Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations for grocery retail.
- Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and use box cutters.
- Understanding of proper product handling, preparation, seasonality, and shelf life.
Nice To Haves
- Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience with Floral department processes and procedures.
- Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Keep the produce department, floral area, storage area, and work area clean and safe, including cleaning shelves and products, addressing spills and hazards, and sweeping.
- Stock and organize produce and floral products; present, rotate, face, and replenish items according to department schematics and ensure tag and pricing accuracy.
- Respond to customer inquiries and assist with purchases, information, product selection, selling, and cross-selling.
- Receive, inspect, and log shipments for accuracy, temperature, and product quality.
- Monitor point-of-purchase signs and maintain recipe cards, product coupons, promotional materials, and information about complementary foods.
- Operate equipment including knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including managing back stock and ensuring tags match products.
- Participate in and run the cut fruit and vegetable program.
- Take responsibility for department sales and profitability.
- Maintain product knowledge and knowledge of product preparation.
- Walk the department regularly to ensure it remains organized, sanitary, and clean.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
